'What on earth is happening?' Upside-down Delta plane rocks social media

News of yet another airplane disaster — after years of relative calm in the skies — prompted an explosion of shock and confusion by commenters on social media Monday.

A Delta Connection CRJ-900 bound from Minneapolis to Toronto came to a rest upside-down on the runway Monday afternoon, captured in dramatic footage by escaping passengers. All 80 passengers and crew survived, although three reportedly suffered critical injuries.

The commercial airline disaster came as investigators probed the deadly American Eagle midair collision with a Blackhawk helicopter above Washington, D.C. and the crash of a Bering Air Caravan plane in Alaska, North America.

"Holy s--- this could’ve been so much worse," wrote far-right webcaster Josie "The Red Headed Libertarian" Glabach. "It appears the Delta flight landed UPSIDE DOWN and as of now, just eight are injured. The passengers are getting off the plane themselves. Those pilots deserve a medal."

"BREAKING: You won't believe this!" wrote former Joe Biden strategist Chris D. Jackson. "A Delta flight arriving from Minnesota just flipped upside down during its landing in Toronto. What in the world is going on??"

"What on earth is happening?!" wrote Solomon King Benge, founder of African science education organization Fundi Bots. "I've never seen a civilian aircraft upside down like this. "Toronto Pearson plane crash involving a Delta Airlines plane arriving from Minneapolis."

No information is known yet about any factors that may have contributed to the crash as of press time. At least some notable people took aim at President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk for moving forward with a plan to gut air traffic control staff even after the American Eagle crash, as the Trump administration baselessly argues diversity programs at the FAA endangered Americans' lives.

"Thanks Trump for freezing FAA flight control hires!" wrote filmmaker and television producer Morgan J. Freeman. "You are murdering people. Or are u blaming DEI, Biden & Obama — under which we had nearly no major airline crashes???"

"Upside down. That’s the plane’s current status," wrote Never Trump conservative strategist Rina Shah. "Completely epitomizes the state of American aviation right now. Secretary [of Transportation] Sean Duffy needs to help fix things FAST. Please join me in praying for all onboard."

"We are aware that a CRJ landed upside-down at YYZ due to DEI's continued existence in Canada and you don't have to DM us about it," wrote the account for the "Well There's Your Problem" engineering podcast.
