Alina Habba, an aide to President Donald Trump and his former lawyer, falsely claimed that former President Joe Biden's Department of Justice prosecuted New York City Mayor Eric Adams for opposing sanctuary city policy instead of charges related to corruption.
During a Monday interview on Fox News, host Kayleigh McEnany told Habba that Adams had denied that the Trump administration dropped the charges against him after he offered to help with the White House's anti-immigrant agenda.
For her part, Habba took a swipe at the Department of Justice officials who resigned when they were ordered to drop the bribery charges against Adams. The DOJ eventually moved to drop the charges anyway.
"The only political pawns that exist in the state of New York are the DAs and AGs that are literally interfering in what the president has ordered," Habba remarked. "And let's not forget something, Kayleigh, you bring up a great point."
"This man was prosecuted because he was anti-sanctuary city policies," she added. "He wanted New York to be safe."

"Alina, I think that's a fantastic point that you make," McEnany replied.
In fact, Adams was charged with bribery and campaign finance offenses last year after allegedly accepting improper benefits from foreign nationals. There is no known connection to his sanctuary city stance.
