Trump AG takes drastic action to catch government leakers

Attorney General Pam Bondi is ramping up her efforts to find the "leakers" within the Trump administration with threats to subpoena journalists, Axios reported.

The former Biden administration had instituted a policy against subpoenaing journalists, which Bondi is now moving to rescind.

"I have concluded that it is necessary to rescind Merrick Garland's policies precluding the Department of Justice from seeking records and compelling testimony from members of the news media in order to identify and punish the source of improper leaks," Bondi wrote in a memo, adding that “This conduct is illegal and wrong, and it must stop."

This escalation is one of many that have occurred as the Trump administration has frantically tried to stop internal information from being spilled to reporters — an issue that similarly frustrated President Donald Trump during his first term as well.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has taken her efforts to root out leaks to an extreme, submitting officials at the department to polygraph tests.

In one of the most recent leaks, The Atlantic revealed this week that career officials at DHS initiated diplomatic proceedings early on to try to bring back wrongly deported Maryland father Kilmer Abrego Garcia, before White House officials shut them down to make the case a show of force for Trump's ability to remove whomever he wants from the United States.

The administration disputes the allegations in the story and claims there was never a plan to repatriate Abrego Garcia.
