'Needs to be primaried!' Dem sparks outrage with vote against reining in Trump

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) sparked outrage from critics Friday night when he joined Republicans in voting against reining in President Donald Trump's war powers.

The legislation, introduced by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), sought to limit Trump's authority to launch military strikes against Iran without congressional approval. The resolution failed in the Senate by a vote of 47-53 on Friday night, and critics quickly pointed out that Fetterman broke ranks with most Democrats to oppose the measure. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) was the lone Republican to support the measure.

Fetterman had signaled before the vote that he didn't want to restrict future presidents from exercising their military authority as commander in chief.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has attacked the effort, suggesting the War Powers Act was unconstitutional. Trump himself twice vetoed similar measures during his first term, Axios noted.

Fetterman's decision to align with the GOP immediately sparked criticism.

Jack Cocchiarella, a Progressive political YouTuber, wrote on X, "John Fetterman just voted AGAINST a resolution that would have forced Trump to go to Congress for approval of further military action against Iran. He needs to be primaried."

Attorney Michelle Hancock replied, "Fetterman was a mistake. Oz was worse but Lamb was better."

X user Denny Casciotti added, "Let’s go Conor Lamb!"

Robert S. Mortensen wrote on Bluesky, "Fetterman needs to refund his democratic donors who supported his campaign during his recovery."

"Fetterman is pure idiot. Republicans are cowards," X user Jonnykam wrote.

"Fetterman is a disgusting Zionist war pig," rebuked X user Burning Orchids.

"John Fetterman is a Republican," chided progressive X user Sean.

The X account Polling USA wrote, "Common Fetterman L," while handing out a "Rare Paul W."
