Tech billionaire Elon Musk, now estranged from his year-long partnership with President Donald Trump, is escalating his threats against the entire Republican Party if they move forward with the president's "big, beautiful bill" on tax cuts.
Musk, who previously called the bill an "abomination" and the GOP lawmakers considering it the "Porky Pig Party," made clear on his X platform Monday afternoon that any lawmaker voting in favor of it would face a spending onslaught by him.
"Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!" wrote Musk. "And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth."
Unlike Democrats, who are outraged over the bill for cutting over $1 trillion from Medicaid, food assistance, and green energy while giving massive tax breaks to the wealthy, Musk's main criticism of the bill is that it doesn't cut spending enough to avoid increases to the federal deficit.
Some right-wing commenters on social media told Musk that he was learning a hard truth they all knew already.
"Disillusionment is a natural stage of a person who did real things in life before finding politics," wrote far-right influencer and conspiracy theorist Mike Cernovich. "Republicans never cared about spending. Paul Ryan gave Obama everything he wanted."
Some other commenters, meanwhile, were quick to note that, while Musk may hate the bill as it exists, he'll have a hard time recruiting Republican primary challengers who will push the party in the exact direction that would benefit himself and his businesses.
"Musk can find people to run who agree with him on spending, he can find people to run who agree with him on energy, it's gonna be real hard to find both and there's not a lot of opportune targets for either," wrote Washington Post opinion editor Benjy Sarlin.
