'Will only get worse': Trump issues grave threat as he touts new ceasefire deal

President Donald Trump issued a stern threat to Hamas on Tuesday to force the political organization to accept the latest terms of a ceasefire agreement.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said Israel had agreed to a 60-day ceasefire. During that time, all parties involved in the negotiations will work to end the war, Trump added. He also said that the Qataris and Egyptians will deliver the final proposal to Hamas' leadership.

"I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE," Trump wrote in the post.

Trump billed himself as a peacemaker during his 2024 presidential campaign. He vowed to end Russia's war in Ukraine within 24 hours of taking office and also promised to keep America out of foreign wars.

However, making peace has proven to be more difficult.

Trump has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of "tapping" him along to prolong the war in Ukraine. The Trump administration also approved a strike on three nuclear facilities in Iran, which experts say risks dragging the U.S. into the war in the Middle East.

The last ceasefire agreement in the Middle East that the Trump administration brokered didn't last long. About a week ago, Trump said that Israel and Iran agreed to a ceasefire, but the agreement appeared to be violated after both countries exchanged rocket fire. The breakdown of that agreement was one of the factors that led to the U.S. striking Iran's nuclear facilities.
