Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) was one of the GOP members who made a big deal about having to rush back to Washington, D.C., to vote for President Donald Trump's mega budget bill.
In a social media post on Tuesday, Mace was captured wearing pink pajamas and riding on a party bus as she made her way back to the Capitol. The post was meant to be a jab at how long it would take the GOP to pass the bill.
"I'm here to save my country, so come hell or high water, I was gonna get here on time," Mace told The Daily Mail after she arrived in D.C.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) called a vote on Trump's budget bill late Wednesday, hoping to send the legislation to the President's desk. However, four Republicans defected from the bill, which all but ensured that it would not pass.
Johnson said he would leave the vote open all night to give his caucus time to change the minds of Republicans who voted against the bill.
The high-profile fracture led Mace to admit that sometimes her jokes don't quite land.
"We're here at the Capitol, and it looks like we're going to pull another all-nighter," Mace said in a recent post on X. "Yes, I have pajamas. Yes, I sometimes like to make jokes. Some of them are good. Some of them don't land, but I do like to laugh and have fun."
