President Donald Trump issued a stern demand on Wednesday for Congress to pass his mega budget bill as he bragged about plummeting border crossings.
"The Men and Women of Border Patrol, ICE, and CBP are doing an amazing job but, they need more help and, they are counting on Republicans to, GET IT DONE!" Trump posed on his social media network, Truth Social.
Estimates show that Trump's budget would provide at least $150 billion in new funding for deportation initiatives over the next four years. That includes $46.5 billion to complete an "integrated border barrier system" along the southern border and $45 billion to expand the network of deportation facilities across the U.S.
The money could be approved at a time when illegal border crossings are at an all-time low. Data from Customs and Border Patrol shows there were just over 25,000 "enforcement encounters" at the southern border in June, which is a far cry from the 130,000 encounters recorded in May 2024.
"America’s Borders are Safe and Secure, and the entire World knows it. All we need to do is keep it this way, which is exactly why Republicans need to pass “THE ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL," Trump wrote in his post.
Earlier in the rant, Trump took a victory lap over the plummeting border crossings.
"CONGRATULATIONS AMERICA! The June Border Statistics are in and, once again, they are the LOWEST RECORDED NUMBERS IN UNITED STATES HISTORY. The U.S. Border Patrol reported ZERO releases of Illegal Aliens into the Country. In addition, Customs and Border Protection only had 25,243 'Nationwide Encounters' throughout the entire month, which is absolutely STAGGERING, considering the Biden Administration was 'encountering' tens of thousands of people every single DAY."
