President Donald Trump took a victory lap Thursday evening after House Republicans finally passed his "Big Beautiful Bill," and announced a signing celebration would be held on the Fourth of July.
The House GOP passed Trump’s marquee domestic policy bill earlier in the day in dramatic fashion, following a tense and protracted overnight session that saw Republican leaders scramble to cobble together just enough votes for passage. The final vote was 218-214, with only two Republicans — Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania — joining Democrats in opposition.
Trump took to his Truth Social platform to tout the major win for his agenda.
"Our Party is UNITED like never before and, our Country is 'HOT,'" he wrote.
Trump invited all members of Congress to his signing Celebration, slated for 4 p.m. EDT on Friday at the White House.
"Together, we will celebrate our Nation’s Independence, and the beginning of our new Golden Age," he vowed. "The people of the United States of America will be Richer, Safer, and Prouder than ever before."
Trump thanked House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), and "all of the wonderful Republican Members of Congress who helped us deliver on our Promises, and so much more."
"Together, we can do things that were not even imagined possible less than one year ago. We will keep working, and winning — CONGRATULATIONS AMERICA!" he said.
The most recent analysis of Trump's budget from the Congressional Budget Office says that the legislation will cause 11.8 million people to lose their Medicaid coverage. The Center of Budget and Policy Priorities added that it will reduce spending on food assistance by $267 billion between 2026 and 2034.
