I'm a hobbyist developer (van builder by trade) and built this because I needed hands-free dictation on Linux that actually works offline. TalkType uses OpenAI's Whisper locally — no cloud, no subscription. It supports Wayland, GNOME via a Shell extension, and ships as a single AppImage. GPU acceleration optional.
