Trump's DOJ gambit backfires as prosecutors zero in on ICE agents: 'It didn't work'

Former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner theorized in the latest episode of his "Justice Matters" show that President Donald Trump's new attorney general tried to stonewall investigations into killings by ICE agents in Minneapolis.

However, he continued, there are clear signs that effort was a failure, and that charges are coming soon for those agents anyway.

The two victims, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, caused nationwide uproar with their deaths and ultimately forced the Trump administration to withdraw from their federal occupation of Minneapolis. But as Minnesota officials investigated, "Donald Trump's DOJ hid the evidence from the scenes of those two homicides, refused to share it with the state, even though the state had jurisdiction, indeed had a responsibility to investigate those two officer-involved fatal shootings," said Kirschner.

The timeline looks fishy, said Kirschner. "The federal government — that would be Donald Trump's dirty DOJ officials — refused to share the evidence for six months before finally turning it over to Minnesota investigators. The Department of Justice handed over the long-withheld evidence in the Good and Pretti killings to state prosecutors on July 13th, 2026." Then, just a few days later, Todd Blanche was confirmed as attorney general, likely meaning the info was only released to "moot out the issue" for holdout GOP senators.

"Todd Blanche might as well have just hidden the killers in his basement, because he was accomplishing the same thing by hiding the evidence from the Minnesota state investigators and prosecutors. He was obstructing their investigation. But guess what? It didn't work," said Kirschner.

The Hennepin County prosecutor, Mary Moriarty, recently made a statement, said Kirschner, saying that "I believe we have enough evidence to be able to, at some point here, make a decision about whether charging is appropriate."

In other words, said Kirschner, Blanche's obstruction efforts failed, and Minnesota has all the evidence it needs for their investigation.

"I don't know what DA Moriarty knows, what she finally was successful in wrestling out of the hands of Todd Blanche and the Department of Justice," Kirschner continued. "I don't know the entire universe of the evidence. But boy, what I saw on the videos of that ICE officer killing Renee Good, of those ICE officers killing Alex Pretti — I strongly suspect that DA Moriarty will charge the killers with some level of criminal homicide."
