'Nothing to lose': Internet calls intensify for Dems to leak Matt Gaetz report

The House Ethics Committee on Wednesday failed to release what was expected to be a damning investigative report involving former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), but that hasn’t ended speculation that the report could come out one way or another.

Almost immediately after reports surfaced that the ethics committee had deadlocked in its deliberations on whether to release their report, a flood of calls took over social media for Democrats to leak it. Some even called out specific Congressional Democrats on the ethics committee.

“Any of the five Democrats on House Ethics could leak the report on Matt Gaetz. Here's who they are,” progressive strategist David Rosen wrote in a social media post that included the names of the five Democrats. “Susan Wild lost her reelection, so she's got nothing to lose by leaking the report.”

“A Democrat should leak the Gaetz report,” writer and podcast host Wajahat Ali posted to his followers on Bluesky. “Trump and MAGA invited a violent insurrection against our election and refer to the traitors as freedom fighters and political prisoners.”

Conservative pundit Bill Kristol took a shot at the GOP for their silence on the report.

“Republicans seem a lot more concerned to protect women on the Hill from the imaginary problem of being in a stall next to Rep. Sarah McBride, than to acknowledge and protect women from the very real depredations of men like Matt Gaetz, Pete Hegseth, and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.,” Kristol wrote on X.

While the report could be leaked to the media, POLITICO reported that a lawmaker could attempt to read it into the congressional record, which would open it up to public access. But, the publication noted, “immediate consequences” would result if someone on the committee decides to leak the report, including censure or expulsion.”
