Los Angeles deputy mayor accused of making bomb threat against City Hall

A deputy mayor in Los Angeles has been accused of calling in a bomb threat against City Hall and is now on administrative leave, according to reports.

“Earlier this year the LAPD responded to a bomb threat made against Los Angeles City Hall. Our initial investigation revealed that the source of the threat was likely from Brian Williams, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety,” Los Angeles police said, according to NBC News.

Mayor Karen Bass said Williams was placed on administrative leave.

“The Mayor takes this matter very seriously,” Bass said in her statement. “When the threat was reported, LAPD investigated and determined there was no immediate danger. Following additional investigation, LAPD referred this matter to the FBI for further investigation.”

The allegations come after the FBI searched his home as part of their investigation into the bomb threat, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Bass appointed Williams last year to oversee police, firefighters and other divisions as the deputy mayor of public safety.
