Trump comes out 'totally against' Mike Johnson's bill to prevent government shutdown

President-elect Donald Trump told Fox News host Lawrence Jones he was "totally against" a Republican bill that would prevent the government from partially shutting down before he takes office on Jan. 20.

In a Wednesday post on X, Jones said he had spoken to Trump "and he is 'totally against' the proposed CR."

Throughout the day, billionaire Elon Musk, head of Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), sought to derail the funding bill backed by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

"'Shutting down' the government (which doesn't actually shut down critical functions btw) is infinitely better than passing a horrible bill," Musk wrote in one post.

"No bills should be passed Congress until Jan 20, when @realDonaldTrump takes office," the billionaire insisted.

Musk also threatened to undermine the reelection efforts of any lawmaker who voted for the bill.
