'Success!' Trump declares victory in salvaging spending bill deal he helped torpedo

President-elect Donald Trump declared "success in Washington" on Thursday afternoon and said lawmakers in Congress have come to a "very good deal" to avert a government shutdown.

Trump took to Truth Social to proclaim: "SUCCESS in Washington!"

"Speaker Mike Johnson and the House have come to a very good Deal for the American People. The newly agreed to American Relief Act of 2024 will keep the Government open, fund our Great Farmers and others, and provide relief for those severely impacted by the devastating hurricanes," wrote Trump.

The MAGA leader then touted a specific part of the deal: punting the debt ceiling for two years.

"A VERY important piece, VITAL to the America First Agenda, was added as well - The date of the very unnecessary Debt Ceiling will be pushed out two years, to January 30, 2027. Now we can Make America Great Again, very quickly, which is what the People gave us a mandate to accomplish."

Trump called on all Republicans — "and even the Democrats" — to do what he said is "best for our Country" and vote to approve the bill Thursday night.

The deal comes after Trump and ally Elon Musk torpedoed the House GOP's first attempt at a funding bill, which would've funded the government through mid-March.
