Republicans claim to have new agreement on funding government and predict Thursday vote

Republicans in the House of Representatives claimed Thursday to have reached a new deal to avert a government shutdown after President-elect Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk derailed a previous agreement.

After leaving House Speaker Mike Johnson's office, Rep. Stephanie Bice (R-OK) told reporters that a vote on the new funding bill was expected later on Thursday.

Punchbowl News correspondent Melanie Zanona reported that the deal included funding the government for three months at the current levels, funding for farmers, a two-year suspension of the debt limit, and disaster relief for recent storms.

It was not immediately clear if Democrats had agreed to the new bill. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) previously said he would take a "hard pass" on raising the debt limit after Trump demanded it as part of the deal.
